On September 30, 2022 - WV Governor Jim Justice announced grant awards to 18 municipalities and 3 counties for the demolition and cleanup of dilapidated properties in West Virginia. This is a Pilot Project administered by the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). The City of Hinton is proud to be one of only 18 WV municipalities in this Pilot Project to be approved for a $170,500. grant.
The governing body of the City of Hinton is anticipating the demolition of an additional 15 properties with this grant funding. Last year, the City demoed 15 properties. This did not include additional properties demoed by private sector owners.
Mayor Jack Scott stated, “Former Mayor and now Councilman Jim Leslie spent many months of research and preparation to secure this grant along with our Legal Counsel Anna Ziegler. Both are due much credit for working diligently to secure this funding for Hinton and continue our efforts to remove dilapidated properties within the city limits.”
Funding is provided to the State of WV from the Federal government, which requires the demolition work to be bid and completed by a private contractor(s).
City government is working toward rebuilding the housing sector of Hinton, a much-needed improvement for our citizens and future residents to enjoy our beautiful history, our people, and our natural resources. #HintonWV #CityofHinton #HintonontheRiver
